SPA Series (amplifiers)

The high frequency power supply is common to all Chord amplifiers and is fundamental to their exceptional performance. A high current mains input filter ensures that the mains itself will be completely untouched by emissions from the amplifier. All Chord products comfortably exceed the European and US emissions and susceptibility standards, BS EN 55103-1 and 2, acknowledged as the world’s most demanding.

The rectified mains and resulting DC is stored, then chopped using MIL Spec MOSFET’s, the following HF waveform is passed through a ceramic cored high frequency transformer, with the output then being reconstituted within a truly innovative magnetic dynamic coupling system, before final storage in a massive bank of capacitors.

This uniquely ties in the positive and negative rails together by a strong magnetic flux. This ensures that the rails stay perfectly balanced at all times, keeping the ground reference point free from any transient power distortion commonly found in conventional amplifiers.

The design is extremely rugged allowing it to absorb tremendous demands from the amplifier without stress. Enormous reserves of power can be achieved instantly and precisely, without limiting or compression, resulting in the production of effortless dynamics.

Chords own 300 watt custom made dual die MOSFET’s are used in the output stage of all Chord amplifiers which are fitted with thermal management and solid state protection circuitry in order to protect not only the amplifier but also the loudspeaker.

SPA 608 – Stereo
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs, Silent convection cooled, rack mountable faceplate, 120 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 170 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 200 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.

SPA 612 – Mono
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs – phase reversible, silent convection cooled, rack mountable faceplate, 350 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 550 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 700 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.

SPA 1032 – Stereo
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs, Twin silent running cooling fans, rack mountable faceplate, 330 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 350 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 500 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.

SPA 1232 – Stereo
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs, Twin silent running cooling fans, rack mountable faceplate, 330 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 550 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 700 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.

SPA 1424 – Mono
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs – phase reversible, Twin silent running cooling fans, rack mountable faceplate, 550 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 950 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 1500 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.

SPA 2232 – Stereo
One pair of XLR Balanced inputs, Twin silent running cooling fans, rack mountable faceplate, 480 Watts RMS per channel into 8ohms, 750 Watts RMS per channel into 4ohms, 1000 Watts RMS burst per channel into 4ohms.
